Ecological hypocrisy

Ecological hypocrisy

Planet Earth dies - we hear it at every step. Pro -ecological movements are more and more spreading. However, I have an impression, that we as scouts, We are still sitting in the Middle Ages in matters of sustainable use of resources.

The scout loves nature and tries to protect it.

Nowadays, Protection should be in the first place. We don't have much time as humanity, To influence the further development of the situation. And it's bad. I will not give examples now, Because at every step we see terrifying photos of maritime birds tangled in plastic bags and recently we have even reached us news about the whale from which the interior has been pulled out a lot of plastics.

We teach to protect. Nothing will happen if the scouts don't know 5 plants that can eat in the forest. This knowledge will not be useful to them anymore. Let them find out how to cultivate and protect the earth, To have something to eat soon.

Inefficient school and scout activities

I don't know if because of the lack of creativity, With laziness or simply ignorance, the learning of ecology is implemented the same. Tell children what they have or what they are not supposed to buy, Please inform that freon and plastic bags are harmful and then make a poster or sculpture from plastic bottles. And the latter is the most dangerous in this! We talk about it, In order not to be lit and immediately after class, the poster goes to the trash, most often not even recycled. Where is the logic? We fight garbage with garbage, Thus, contributing to the increase in pollution. Someone, who came up with it was a genius. We are also genius, because we are still practicing the same schemes.

What's more, Browsing the program proposals, I also came across a outline, in which plastic straws or yogurt cups are used. This is hypocrisy at its best!

I'm fighting in my breast

Because I never thought about it myself. I had no knowledge and skills to deal with the topic properly. Ba, There was not even a desire! I have recently thrown out the kilos of paper with the team despite, that we could easily give them for recycling or use it again. We produced so much rubbish at the team's holiday meeting, that I am ashamed to admit. However, there is always one thought in the head- who does not do that? Take a summary of your team's ecological action. And then take the appropriate action.

What we can (really) to do?

  • Waste segregation. Put the appropriate garbage cans in Scouts. Consistently remind you about using them.
  • Limit the use of unreleted program materials. Plastic straws or cups, Packaging after sweets- You can function without it. Used paper cards can be used, e.g.. to create a paper mass.
  • In the Biwakach, camps and trips use reusable items- own cutlery, messages, drinks for drinks. It is worth limiting buying ready -made products in plastic packaging- Water in PET bottles, cookies packed a few pieces, bars.
  • Think about the team how you can be more eco. Then save your observations on the card and ...
  • … Enter the Nature Conservation Policy in the team. Let it have an official tone in order- as a team decision or resolution of the team council.
